Hollowed out...I thought CHS was going to talk about the products we buy. Jars of pills are less than half full. Cheese packages are less than half full. Shrinking pizzas. Shrinking chip bags. Shrinking, shrinking, shrinking...while the price goes up and up.

Maybe we'll all be living in little hobbit holes in hills soon.

All of us? You can bet that no matter what happens, certain parties will escape the consequences, and slink back into the shadows. There to await the rise of the next Great Leader, so they can buy them. Rinse repeat.

the prosperity gains in the decades following WW2 were not "fake" because that period saw the greatest growth in surplus energy flowing through IC so those were decades of real gains in the affordability of goods and services.

now we are at a point of growth in surplus energy not only having slowed down to almost no growth, but actually moving to declining surplus energy.

these decades since WW2 show how surplus energy dominates economics, and truly the primary surplus energy economy dictates the state of the secondary financial economy.

based on this surplus energy reality, it's no surprise that the economy keeps getting more "hollowed-out".

and this degrowth process CANNOT be reversed.

the average person MUST become continually poorer for the next few decades as the declining surplus energy continually makes the economy more "hollowed-out".

the degrowth process will not be pleasant.

The other day, I watched a YouTube video by an auto mechanic who owns his own shop and employs several mechanics. He explains in the video why auto mechanics are leaving the industry to become plumbers, electricians, construction workers, etc.

Auto mechanics are underpaid and disrespected by their employers (auto dealerships). The auto mechanic who made the video predicts a severe shortage of auto mechanics in the near future.

So, if you buy a vehicle, you'd better learn how to fix it yourself.

The status quo has pushed us into extremes of hollowed-out instability to maintain a superficial appearance of normalcy and stability. But it's all fake.

Like that

This started in 1980s

It’s interesting seeing houses being built

“Luxury” condos with high prices that aren’t really luxury

Desperate search for a lifestyle appearance

Frankly I feel its just the 8 billion people issue

A new study argues that rural populations were undercounted so maybe it’s over 9 billion

Charles, you paint the bleak present that we must acknowledge if we are to progress toward a future of real things, real experiences and real life. Let's hope your words can be a catalyst for the dawning of a new age. We are birthing something good and as in childbirth, there will be pain before the joy.
