Thought-provoking comments, thank you. I am a big fan of geothermal energy which is forever and under-appreciated. Yes, it doesn't replace hydrocarbons but it could enable us to save the hydrocarbons for productive uses rather than squander them on sitting in traffic.

The problem the world faces but refuses to recognize is the status quo system has failed the bottom 80% and the younger generations. This is why youth uprisings are manifesting globally. "laying flat," "the 5 no's" and "the garbage time of history" are all expressions that describe the youth nihilism in China, but they apply everywhere. We've driven inequality to extremes that guarantee social disorder, which is the topic of my new book which you'll read about this weekend, warm regards, charles

"Those expecting inflation will find it, those expecting deflation will find it..."

the trend could very well be inflation of essentials and deflation of non-essentials.

"These titanic forces still have the momentum of recency bias: most people expect the rest of the 2020s to be an extension of the 40+year Bull Market in Everything."

the economy could crash tomorrow or next month or next year or next decade, but even a mere 10% longer is another 4+ years.

"Long cycles are now in play."

the longest cycle is the 300+year incline in FF based surplus energy, and that cycle looks to be very near to decline starting about now and continuing for decades.

it's such a huge cycle that most people can't see it, especially economists.

"The world desires ever greater quantities of energy and consumption, but the cheap, easy to exploit materials have already been exploited. Now everything will become more expensive, regardless of technological improvements."

true! for the average person, life will become relentlessly less affordable in a gradual and prolonged and slow way all the way to dire poverty and the end of IC by late in this century.

in that perspective, the 2020s are the good olde days and the end of this century is nothing to worry about.
